Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest recorded medicine in History. Showing evidence dating back well over 2500 years outdating all Western Medicine today. Unlike Bio Medicine Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the Philosophy of Daoism that  everything in life is interconnected.

Daoism is made up of five parts: water, fire, wood, metal, and earth. Its a Kingdom of Vegetation, Animals, Humankind and God.  It is represented by three parts, the outer square known as the physical body. The inner triangle representing the Mental Body, and the Spiritual Body which is represented as the ultimate symbol of the continuum circle. The Physical Body is ruled by entertainment, contentment, reproduction and consumption. The Mental Body is broken down to three parts: Thinking, experiencing emotions, and exercising Will. However the Spiritual Body isn't limited by space and time. Possessing the intelligence to communicate with God, through an inner consciousness with deep intuition.

Acupuncture and TCM is the practice to balance the flow of Qi (pronounced Chee). Qi flows through the body via channels, or pathways, these are called meridians. There are a total of 20 meridians: 12 primary meridians, which correspond to specific organs, that organ system or functions, and eight secondary meridians. Imbalances in the flow of Qi cause illness and correction of this flow restores balance. When there is a disruption of Qi in the body it is referred to as an imbalance of Yin and Yang and the root cause of disease onset and development. Using the five element theory and syndrome differentiation you can diagnose one's illness and treat to restore balance to the entire body.

According to The Public Health site of Canada their statistic show that more than 70 percent of the population use complementary and alternative health services such as Acupuncture and TCM.

Five Elements - Traditional Acupuncture:

Five Element Theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine is represented as "Wu" meaning the five categories in the natural world; Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. "Xing" represents movement of change of these Five Elements. Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water are the basis of the foundation of Human life. The Five Elements can explain the basic nature of how all things in life inter-promote and inter-restrict each other in the natural world around us or within our own body.

In our bodies the law of The Five Elements will explain the relationship  between the internal organs and tissues. This theory will give details how the human physiology, pathology interact along with the mutual relationship between them, the physical body and it's natural environment.

The Five Elements are made up of their own characteristics which were based off of a theoretical system to analyze data to show the inter-relationship between various things such as the environment, weather, animals, plants and the human body.

Wood Element is based off of a tree stem or branches, just like our environment branches grow upward and outward. So any character's that appear to be in the nature of growing, developing, flourishing pertain to the Wood Element.

Fire Element is the Character to warmth, ascending and heat. Fire is known to burn and it will flare upwards in direction, data that resemble this property belongs to fire.

Characteristics of Earth Element as in the natural environment earth is to grow. Such as flowers blossom in the spring and reap in the fall, all vegetation live on this cycle. Any functions that generate, hold, and receive pertain to Earth.

Metal Element is a changing element. It can be very hard and solid but when heated it will turn to liquid then molded to man's creation. Character's of clearing, descending, and astringing is directly related to the Metal Element.

The last element is Water, Water Element flows in a downward direction and moistens everything it touches. Characteristics pertaining to cold, coolness, moistening, downward flowing is associated to the Water element.

Every element is associated to different parts of the body and a list of effect or symptoms like qualities go along with each one. For instance wood qualities direct qualities are; early morning, spring, east, wind, green, germination. Indirect qualities are; gallbladder, liver, anger, eyes, shouting, nails, sour taste. Earth is know as the center for which can been seen between all the season approximately 18 days.

The Five Element Theory describes one element as the promoting element represented as the "Mother" promoting the "Child", every element there after promotes and restricts each other. This cycle is called the Sheng Cycle it is a harmonize balance always moving forward in a clockwise position and interchanging.

If there is an imbalance in this relationship such as the "Mother" being weak will ultimately make the "child" weak this relationship is represented at a subjugation. The other type of subjugation is when the "Child" is in excess making the "Mother" deficient, one is too powerful restricting the other in an abnormal relationship.

The KO cycle happens when one of the Five Elements reversely retrains the other changing its direction entirely from clockwise to counter clockwise. This is represented as a Violation of the "Father and Son" relationship. When the "Father" is in excess it will over act on the "son" making it deficient such as Earth violating Wood. Another form is if the "Father" element is weak the "Son" element will appear to be in excess which is also another violation of their natural relationship.

Each element promotes the other  as a part of the integral unity of their own existence. Such as the kidney essence (Water) nourishes the liver (Wood) this is a normal promoting relationship where Water Element promotes Wood Element. Liver (wood) stores blood to promote heart (Fire), heat of the (Fire) warms the spleen (Earth). Spleen then produces food nutrients essence to nourish the lung ( Metal). This is promotion between all five Zhang Viscera.

When there is subjugation or a violation the correction must come in the way of Notifying or Reducing the excess and deficient elements to restore balance in the relationship and within the body. Treatment can be done to do this is forms of Acupuncture, food and also herbs. Through Syndrome differentiation using the theory of the Five Elements you can look at what types of abnormal relationships are occurring within the body. From the diagnosis of onsets one then can be treat the excess or deficiency in the body and restore harmony before illness occurs. The Five element theory is one of the key parts to Traditional Chinese Medicine the basis of TCM would never have been found without it.

Yin Yang theory is the characteristics of two opposite aspects in nature that have a mutual relationship with each other. Yin Yang is meant to explain a wide variety of things such as; upper and lower, ascending and descending, hot and cold, outer and inner in relative position or active and slowness in its moving state.  Opposition and interdependence of  Yin-Yang must take the existence of the other as a term of their own existence, under the condition of mutual restriction everything that lives on earth will be affected by Yin Yang balance, even down to the smallest organism. You cannot have one exist without the other. If one is out of balance so is the other. This imbalance will most likely lead to severe repercussions if not harmonized equally.
